Shooting Sparks Pursuit at Milford Howard Johnson

Police say the car they were pursuing remains at large.

Police say the car that led them on a pursuit Thursday afternoon out of the Milford Howard Johnson parking lot, after a shooting there, remains at large.

Authorities are questioning, however, the occupants of another vehicle, which left the parking lot at the time of the incident, according to Milford police spokesman Jeff Nielsen.

Nielsen said that car was located on Route 121.

He said there are no reported injuries in the shooting or following pursuit.

Nielsen said investigators found a bullet lodged in the side of a vehicle in the parking lot, which is behind an adjacent diner on the Boston Post Road.

The shooting was part of a dispute between two parties. “Several gunshots” were fired, Nielsen said.

After the shooting, “a vehicle involved in the incident” drove over an area of grass and fled through the parking lot of the diner, engaging police in a pursuit, police say.

Nielsen could not provide a description of the vehicle. He said it’s unknown if the parties were staying at the motel.

Investigators canvassed a wide area that extended to a stretch of the Boston Post Road, which was cordoned off for about 20 minutes.

Nielsen said the crime scene would be secured for “quite a while” as police continue to investigate.
