Milford Sonic Gets OK From Planning and Zoning

Plans to take over the Arby's spot on Boston Post Road move forward.

Sonic got approval Tuesday to retrofit the exterior of 1365 Boston Post Road with canopies that will provide for 12 drive-in parking spots, according to Planning and Zoning Board Chairman Mark Bender.

A deal between Sonic and Arby’s, the current occupant of the building, still needs to be finalized, but as far as the city’s concerned it’s all systems go for Sonic to claim the spot, Bender said.

Sonic proposed 12 drive-in parking spots, which is fewer than its other locations in Connecticut, because “they didn’t feel they had the room” to fit more, Bender told Milford Patch Wednesday.

Bender said the one resident to speak during public forum before the board OK’d the special permit argued that Sonic has the potential to cause traffic troubles at a nearby “already crowded intersection.”

The speaker advised that that has been his experience with other Sonic locations, Bender said.
