No Fourth of July Fireworks at Milford Westfield Mall

After years of putting on a fireworks display for the Fourth of July, Westfield Shopping Mall in Milford will not be having one this year, a representative from Westfield Group said Tuesday.

District Marketing Director Paul Sabina said the mall stopped doing an annual fireworks show at their Trumbull and Meriden locations last year and chose to forego them in Milford this year as well.

“We wanted to focus more on community and promotional outreach,” Sabina said, stating that all three mall complexes will be introducing new family programs, including live shows, crafts and meet-and-greets starting in August.

Westfield Malls have run family programs in the past, however Sabina said that without the cost associated with the fireworks, “We’ll be able to do more throughout the year.”

Sabina said the executive team has not had any conversations about reinstating the fireworks in years to come but that it’s certainly something that might come up again in the future.
