Literacy Volunteers of Southern CT, Neighbor

The Literacy Center of Milford is a non profit organization that provides a quality program where people can find the help and support they require to meet their basic literacy needs. Last year we tutored more than 100 students who received 3,473 hours of English.  62 tutors volunteered 5,493 hours of time to their students in preparation, travel and tutor time. We tutor adults in need of basic English skills, GED preparation, and English as a second language.

We also support other literacy efforts with babies, toddlers, middle school age and pre school age children.  We have weekly story hours, book give a ways, family based literacy program at a local school and reading time at health care centers. Last year our volunteer readers volunteered 350 hours to preschoolers and gave away 1,206 books to local children.
