Our Vision and Mission

The Downtown Milford Business Association's vision and mission is to bring attention to our beautiful downtown with all its various and unique amenities including the second longest town Green in Connecticut, monuments, Milford Lisman Landing, the Historical Society and Historic buildings, and the Milford Fine Arts Center. The DMBA membership consists of over 100 businesses including retail, services, and restaurants that are committed to working together to create a strong and vibrant downtown.

We want to encourage developers, investors, property owners, entrepreneurs and others to locate here to help strengthen the economic base of downtown.

As part of our marketing and promotional campaigns we seek to reach out to shoppers, diners, visitors and potential residents by showcasing our quaint New England characteristics.  Our downtown is especially unique because it can be reached by car, train, boat, bike or on foot.  Our harbor is within walking distance of many fine locally owned shops, restaurants and services.

We are working with civic organizations to improve the appearance of Downtown so that it is perceived as clean, safe and friendly while preserving its historic appeal. We promote special downtown happenings that include the following annual events: Cap'n Kidd Treasure Hunt Pirates Day, Wine Trail, Holl-O-Weekend, Small Business Month and Lamplight Stroll.

We are working to communicate the vision, and activities of the Downtown Milford Business Organization to the community through membership and sponsorship opportunities and special events.

Strolling through downtown you get that small town feeling coupled with the charm and the sense of history of an English settlement dating from 1639. Walk over the Hotchkiss Bridge, gaze at the gorge framed by the arch of the Founders Bridge, hop a pedicab, stroll along the town green, or just sit and enjoy the water view. The Milford Historical Society safeguards three 18th century homes at its High Street Complex. Among their possessions is one of the finest collections of Native American artifacts.

Seventeen miles of Long Island Sound coastline funnel into our harbor that winds its way to meet the Wepawaug River in the heart of downtown. The sixth oldest town in Connecticut, 50,000 residents are proud to boast of a meticulously maintained town green, the second longest in New England. Multiple memorials along the green honor those who served in past conflicts.  A memorial bridge provides a stone passageway that commemorates the history of our ancestors.

Milford provides ample cultural, recreational, educational and employment opportunities that makes the City more than just a great place to visit. Many high quality arts and crafts shows, varied festivals and events make Milford a destination for day trippers.   Water recreation abounds with access from boat launches, the Milford Lisman Landing Marina, multiple city beaches, and Silver Sands State Park. The Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center at Milford Point offers views of the estuary and Long Island Sound and their inhabitants. The recently renovated and expanded Milford Hospital has been providing for health care needs of the city for the past 80 years.
