The students, who have failed elsewhere, enjoy a sense of belonging while addressing their special-education needs, including learning disabilities, anxiety, depression and school phobia. The goal is to allow them to attain academic competence and emotional growth. Students are encouraged to express themselves through art, much of which is on display inside the building. About 90 percent of the graduates go on to college, according to the school's director, Bob Lepper.
