Father Cronin of St. Mary's Church Dies at 75

The Reverend James J. Cronin, age 75, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in Hartford, CT on January 10, 1937, son of the late Matthew and Bridget Herlihy Cronin.

    Father Cronin was raised in Bloomfield, CT and attended St. Peter Grammar School in Hartford, St. Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford and St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. He graduated from St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and Yale Divinity School in New Haven. Father Cronin was ordained at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford by Archbishop Henry J. O'Brien on May 31, 1962. He served as an assistant at Sacred Heart Church in Waterbury as well as at St. Augustine Church in North Branford. Father Cronin was the assistant, co-pastor and Administrator in Waterbury at Saints Peter and Paul Church for 15 years and served as an assistant in Enfield at St. Patrick's Church for two years. Lisa DiLullo remembers the day when she first met Lew Scarpa. She was visiting her father, Bill Bull, in Milford Healthcare when she saw her father's face light up: Lew Scarpa was there. "My Dad grabbed Lew by the arm and they sat in the hallway talking and remembering for what seemed like awhile," Lisa DiLullo said,  "I hadn't seen my Dad that bright and talkative in a long time.  Clearly, Dad had great respect and affection for Lew Scarpa and--on that particular day--he reached my Dad in a special way, and brought Dad great comfort and laughter. That was my first meeting with Lew Scarpa, and I will always be grateful to him for that day." A lot of Milford citizens no doubt will remember Lewis W. Scarpa in a similar light. Lewis passed …

Lee Sumner Cushman Funeral on Saturday

Lee Cushman, 73, formerly of Milford, died on Tuesday. "She was a huge life force and we will all miss her terribly," her daughter says.

Lee Sumner Cushman, 73, of Darien died on Tuesday, March 13, from pancreatic cancer. "She was skiing with her grandkids three weekends ago, snorkling with friends in FL a month ago, touring in Italy with the Smith Choir six months ago and Heliskiing only five years ago," her daughter, Jessica Cushman wrote to Patch.  "She was a huge life force and we will all miss her terribly." She was born in Boston, MA on June 24, 1938 daughter of the late Thurston Bradford Sumner and Jessica White Pirie. Raised in Milford, with her three late brothers, Richard Bradford Sumner, William White Sumner and Thurston Bradford Sumner Jr., she went to Smith College and was a member of the class of 1960. Homicide Victim's Funeral is Monday

Antoinette Venditti Bruce, 35, wife of Christopher J. Bruce of East Haven, passed away March 29, 2011. Daughter of Domenico and Elizabeth Martone Venditti of East Haven. Sister of Anna (Thomas) Albe of East Haven. Grandaughter of Michelina Venditti of East Haven and the late Antonio Venditti, and Antoinette Martone of Hamden and the late Tomasso Martone. Aunt of Trevor Albe, Joshua and Shaun Bruce and Cheyenne Riccio. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Antoinette was a Supervisor for the Christmas Tree Shop in Orange. Her funeral procession will leave the Porto Funeral Home, 234 Foxon Rd., East Haven Monday morning at 9:15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony's Church at 10:00. Farewell Little Angel

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday for little Zoe Anyan, a 7-year-old Milford girl who succumbed to cancer.

Little Zoe Anyan, the 7-year-old Milford girl who succumbed to cancer, was remembered Saturday as an angel who loved life -- and lived love. "My little angel, you brought out the good in people and brought a community together," Melissa (Castango) Anyan, said through tears at a Mass of Christian burial for her daughter, Zoe Anyan at St. Gabriel Church. Zoe, a second-grader at Live Oaks Elementary School, was diagnosed with a brain tumor less than a year ago. Despite a valiant fight, she succumbed to the illness Wednesday. "We all miss you so," her mother said. "Enjoy your purple angel wings. God, let her heart shine through and soar forever." The Rev. Milford Angel's Wake Tonight

Zoe Anyan, the 7-year-old who succumbed to cancer Wednesday, will be memorialized at a Mass on Saturday.

Raymond C. Kuehn, prominent Milford resident, Died Monday at Age 69.

He was owner and president of Anway Lithographers, Inc. of Milford for nearly 40 years.

Raymond C. Kuehn, age 69 , beloved husband of 50 years to Gloria Wilk Kuehn, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2010. He was born on August 21, 1941, to the late Charles W. and Beatrice Belhumeur Kuehn.  Mr. Kuehn, a graduate of Bullard Havens Technical School, was the owner and president of Anray Lithographers Inc., of Milford for 38 years. He was a past president of Milford Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Printing Industry of CT, Milford Chamber of Commerce, Milford Planning and Zoning, Drug Free Milford, United Way of Milford Founders Club, and Corporate Advisors of Milford Hospital.
