Casualty of prohibition? So you think people should just be able to run around with heroin andRead More cocaine and other deadly drugs?
Brandon May 17, 2013 at 01:48 pm
Another casualty of prohibition.
John Hanks May 16, 2013 at 08:34 am
Really Maria? You're going to nitpick at which side of the Milford Green is was on? The story isRead More that a guy was arrested with heroin in the Milford Green area, those are the details.
tlkensington May 15, 2013 at 06:07 pm
Can't have fun anymore. Try to fire some fireworks at 1:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and the cops getRead More called. The shame. The shame.
CB May 14, 2013 at 09:30 pm
The owners of the stores mentioned should receive a fine that makes them think twice about doingRead More this again.. It's pretty easy to card a person. what does it take, 3 minutes. Today with all the law suits and drunk driving laws you would think they would card almost everyone.
The Crushed Grape May 14, 2013 at 07:43 pm
The minor was 16 years old. He did not look like Jon Hamm.
tlkensington May 14, 2013 at 02:50 pm
They look like Jon Hamm.
tlkensington May 14, 2013 at 12:53 pm
They ran away for a week. I did this when I was their age. I ran away with my then girlfriend toRead More Montreal. The memories.... Granted neither of us was a minor. We were both 18 and just graduated high school.
Amber ruggiero May 13, 2013 at 11:48 pm
They are my friends!!! Plz help find them

How will carrying anything other than a 9mm or 45, which for the 1 millionth time nobody is tryingRead More to pry from your cold lifeless hands, have any usefulness whatsoever if this guy jumps out of the shadows at 10pm with a nickel-plated pistol while you are gassing up at Mobil? The only chance you would have is if you are CCW and manage to pull out your own piece before he gets a shot (or 3) off. Even then, if he has the drop on you, good luck with that. In either case, I fail to see how ongoing activities to better safeguard gun ownership, particularly assault style weapons, have ANY relevance to the situation, seeing as how nobody is trying to take your pistols away. Sorry, if you think carrying an AR around is going to help you against this type of criminal (who is not going to conveniently announce his intention to rob you from 30 meters out in broad daylight), then again, good luck to you and the false sense of security it will bring you.
MikeS May 9, 2013 at 05:58 pm
Taking bets on the likelihood that this guy (and a wheel man) took a nice trip up from theRead More Bronx/Brooklyn/pick your borough and decided to hit a bunch of places along the Post Road, and then just scoot back down I-95. It could just as easily have been someone from Bridgeport or Norwalk, but there have been lots of incidences of "suburban raids" lately. Not a month doesn't go by where you don't read a story now about somebody from NYC trying to use counterfeit money/fraudulent checks in some store in SW Connecticut.
Ed May 9, 2013 at 12:19 pm
Robert, if you need a gun like those on the banned list to protect yourself then I suggest hiring aRead More bodyguard.
CtLynn5 May 8, 2013 at 05:53 pm
Even more information is on the New Haven Register website today. It is shocking he is not alreadyRead More in prison.
David Chesler May 7, 2013 at 11:21 am
Yes. Ouch :-(
MikeS May 7, 2013 at 11:15 am
I just read this guy's rap sheet over on the mirror. If I'm reading it right, he has been involvedRead More in at least 2 other incidents in which he hit pedestrians/bicyclists. How did he still have a driver's license after that??
Ed May 6, 2013 at 05:06 pm
Hal...I'm not about to compete with you on this because this is not about you are me, but about ourRead More children. There is an obvious difference between the two of us on what is acceptable. You are welcome to your acceptance of this solution, but I am not quite as receptive. If you feel offended by my position, that is your problem and not mine. There is bigger fish to fry here...
Hal DePino May 6, 2013 at 04:17 pm
@Ed - I will point to this comment you made this morning: "the first thing we need to do isRead More assess all the schools and find out what needs to be addressed to strengthen the school. Once that is done, we would need to see what is out there that can provide a solution in addressing the vulnerabilities that exists at some of the buildings. " The first thing "WE" need to do? You say that as if the district has been sitting on its you know what when in reality the safety assessment team - again, a panel of experts and those charged with running our school system - has been meeting weekly since Sandy Hook. They have assessed and continue to assess. As I said, they have reviewed the measures that have been in place a long time, have shored up what needs to be shored up and have plans for enhancements based on those assessments and what their experts are suggestions. How do I know all this? Because I have had a discussion with both principals at the schools my children attend. I sat through a meeting last week that was over 3 hours long. I feel my children are very safe in our schools and I trust those in charge to be on top of this.
Ed May 6, 2013 at 01:00 pm
Sandra....this will by last exchange...if you read my posts, I do not ridicule anyone...I'm sorry ifRead More you take it personally. I only have a desire to protect my kids. I gain no satisfaction by mocking anyone and if you look at the posts, unless someone attacks me personally, then I respond. I do not believe bringing SROs into schools and am voicing my view against that decision and not against you or Mr. DePino personally.
JE May 3, 2013 at 09:52 pm
So well said, David Chesler.
JE May 3, 2013 at 09:51 pm
Could not have said it better myself Sandra.

The security guard at Columbine chose not to do his job. (Just as pre-9/11 people thought one shouldRead More go along with hijackers, maybe that was what he thought he was supposed to do, back then.) Buzzers are nice. They had them in our former, Massachusetts, district. After a while it's the secretary who looks up, sees no very obvious threat, and buzzes in the person carrying a bag that may contain lunch, or may contain the tools of evil. Screening visitors is a small part of her job function, and 999 times out of a thousand it's a benign parent, or tardy student, reinforcing that there is no need to be particular careful. (And the 1000th time it's a kid who is no longer enrolled or something else not particularly dangerous either.) In the school situations, the murderers have had lots of time to think about how to do it, and they can bring in their tools one piece at a time. Andrew Kehoe spent most of a school year planting explosives in the Bath, MI school. Adam Lanza is an exception in that he was clearly not supposed to be there. Nothing wrong with perimeter security (until it gets so burdensome, for so little gain, that people circumvent it. When you've got to get hundreds of students inside in 10 minutes, there isn't time for a lot of screening) but it's going to fail. Sending the kids in with all that love and respect, as the letter writer says, will also sometimes fail. When that happens, you need an intelligent agent in there to take appropriate action.

Criminals rarely feel shame nowadays. It's a new age we live in, moral relativity is the newRead More normal.
tlkensington May 4, 2013 at 12:50 am
Why do newspapers have a police blotter but not a conviction blotter? Sure arrests are nice to readRead More about but I think when someone in the town is convicted it would be helpful for people to know. Would help to publicly shame people
David Chesler May 3, 2013 at 06:17 pm
Is there someplace on the Milford PD site to review the entire log, not just those incidents thatRead More result in arrest? I understand Milford PD encrypts even routine radio transmission, so we lose that transparency, but I like the boring bits ("Responded to 2-car accident at ____". "Resident of __ reported seeing a kangaroo in the woods. Officer ___ responded and suggested it was more likely a deer.")
Hal DePino May 4, 2013 at 01:23 am
Dear Mr. Ed - I’ve not expressed any negativity about any one solution. You, on the otherRead More hand, have continued to debunk, at every turn, every solution but your own. Go back and read your posts. Only your solution is the right one. All I’ve done is share statistics I learned from a renowned forensic psychologist who you then said was full of you-know-what. Google the guy. He’s got credientials up the wazoo. Yale, Harvard, the Secret Service & FBI. But Ed, from the Patch, knows best. IMHO (and many others if you google your suggestion) your solution has a ton of holes in it. A vestibule. Great. What will that do when 95% of school shooters attend the school they attack? What about all the other windows in a school that could easily be shot out. What about recess, dismissal time? You keep saying your way will be seamless and transparent to the kids, but then you also mention metal detectors. What happens when there’s false alarms. They happen all the time. As I said, then there are the pat downs and searches. Real transparent. I like the SRO program because it addresses one of the main precipitators of these events – bullying. My actual opinion is there needs to be a variety of measures taken, which the school system has done and continues to work on. By the way, I know the mayor pretty well. I’ll have to ask him if he got a letter from a guy named Ed.
Ed May 3, 2013 at 07:50 pm
People seem to forget that Columbine had an officer assigned to the school and look what itRead More accomplished. You can frame the term however which way you choose...SRO, police officer, security guard, etc...However at the end of the day, they will not be the answer to addressing school safety in a truly responsible manner.
Ed May 3, 2013 at 12:56 pm
With all due respect to these published statistics, I truly believe that every parent would chooseRead More to air on the side of caution when it comes to ensuring the safety of their children. This desire may be construed as knee jerk reaction to Sandy Hook, but it is a legitimate concern. IMO, SROs are not the answer and it appears a lot of parents share this viewpoint.

Does anyone remember the days when all that was in backpacks was books and a soggy ham sandwich ?Read More Mmm soggy ham sandwich !!
RONALD M GOLDWYN April 30, 2013 at 02:34 pm
Good conclusion also.
RONALD M GOLDWYN April 30, 2013 at 01:57 pm
This is a fine posting, It clearly describes the problem the means they are using to neutralize itRead More and the way we civilians can get around it. Good reporting Ryan.
John Pasnau May 6, 2013 at 08:07 pm
Simple. They must be in the bottle they came in from the pharmacy, with the label affixed andRead More unaltered. Anything else is unlawful. I keep mine in a weekly minder along with the over the counter vitamin I take. This makes me a criminal.
David Chesler May 6, 2013 at 07:36 pm
I wondered the same thing, my typing-impaired friend. What are the requirements for legally storingRead More narcotics?
Lindy Smith May 6, 2013 at 04:34 pm
Are we all storing narcotic meds illegal? How sjpi;d tjeu be stpred. Mine is on my bureau, since IRead More still have the cough and cold
