Casualty of prohibition? So you think people should just be able to run around with heroin andRead More cocaine and other deadly drugs?

Another casualty of prohibition.
John Hanks May 16, 2013 at 08:34 am
Really Maria? You're going to nitpick at which side of the Milford Green is was on? The story isRead More that a guy was arrested with heroin in the Milford Green area, those are the details.

I've heard that Colony has great pizza and will be ordering from there once the novelty settlesRead More down. No rush for me..been in Milford for years and not going anywhere soon
tlkensington May 15, 2013 at 08:23 am
I have no reason to fight the crowds. There are plenty of great options in Milford. I will probablyRead More stick with Papa's but will try Colony's pie in a few weeks. I also still need to try the other new place where the Bar B Que used to be. Has anyone tried that place yet?

Matzkin outgh to make sure that Dunn pays him upfront. all i am saying is that i wonder why theRead More employees fled to Joe and Kate...
tlkensington May 19, 2013 at 08:55 am
Looks like Dunn, nor his attorney have any class. No wonder they are trying to bully this girl. ByRead More the looks of it, Dunn is the reason why MacDaddy's is horrible. He is too worried about profit to care about food. The food sucks and his company is having a hard time expanding. Who would want to expand such a crappy brand? A brand built on an idea that wasn't Dunn's to begin with. Now he is complaining that someone might be stealing his stolen idea. No wonder Voll wanted out from MacDaddy's. I wouldn't want to deal with Dunn or his idiot attorney. Look at Matzkin's website! No style or substance in this man.
MaeRest May 19, 2013 at 05:30 am
So now people are ignorant, maybe of the truth? Matzkins is Dunn's attorney spewing the case on thisRead More article, only he spews his side, There is an injunction according to court documents that Dunn is not allowed at the two Macdaddy locations, and why doesn't Matzkin cut and paste the reason? Because it doesn't look good for Dunn! also from what I heard and the writings, his so called Texas Macdaddys changed its name and wants nothing to do with the Macdaddy's name or Dunn. From what has been out there no one wants Anything to do with Dunn or his name. Since Matzkin is cutting and pasting court documents then the judgement found in Dunn's partners favor which is the father of Voll should be put here also. Matzkin,as an attorney is unprofessional to fight his client's battle on this site. And for your information Matzkin, people aren't dumb. they see you are trying to change the facts.

Complaining about parking suggests laziness. There are tons of spots along the western half of theRead More green at all times. It's barely a city block to most destinations. There's also usually parking behind the library. Again, very short walk. It's good for you, especially after all that pizza and beer.
tlkensington April 30, 2013 at 09:58 pm
Well who drives in those cities? That's just silly talk.
James Kelly April 30, 2013 at 08:39 pm
Great to see Colony finally getting to the finish line. The newly redeveloped lot looks so muchRead More better than what was there, and I can't wait to try the pizza and compare it to the original in Stamford. As far as parking downtown, a couple of thousand people seem to find places every weekend to visit the shops, bars, and restaurants, so I guess they are there. You might just have to walk a little, but I believe downtown is worth it.

To bad Congress screwed everything up. I wonder how the congressmen that voted against the billRead More would feel if their children were slaughtered like the children in Newtown. Do you realy need an AR15 to shoot rabbits and squirrels? Why shoot any living thing unless in total self defense, and you dont need a high powered gun for that.
Wayne Theriault April 20, 2013 at 01:40 pm
My representative was not able to vote which is good since according to her assistant, she wouldRead More have voted no. Next election, I'll work for her opponent.

The 18 y/o restriction on a rifle is crazy. I was given my first rifle as a young teen by theRead More grandfather and been using guns for years prior to that point. I was taught responsibility. I was taught to respect firearms and life. Maybe more people need a grandfather like mine. The feds should limit there reforms to federal background checks. Other limitations should be left up to states. What is needed in CT isn't necessarily needed for Montana.

I was born and raised in Milford, and I called these ponds Duck Ponds for over 50 years. I loveRead More seeing the ducks and geese gathering and I also do not mind one little bit if I must wait a minute or two for them to cross a road. I usually get out of my car and gently move them along while other less patient drivers honk and drive through them. They are a reminder of the tranquility of nature in our otherwise hurried lives. They've been a part of downtown long before many current residents even moved here. If I had my way, areas around the duck ponds would be closed to car traffic altogether. I like ducks more than I like cars.... We must learn to live harmoniously with our wild life, control population growth, offer humane concern and care when possible, and educate people. The immediate focus is on the ducks and their welfare, but how we address that will ultimately define our humanity.
Lisa Bailardo Whitham April 15, 2013 at 02:15 am
I have been a life-long resident of Milford and have always referred to these ponds as duck ponds.Read More They may not have started out that way, but that is how they turned out over 40 years ago. How can you not expect waterfowl to make habitats out of mill ponds that no longer have shops and factories around them, and the hustle & bustle of pedestrians. We all aware these animals are wild & never said they existed for our pleasure. Bebe has brought the best offer to the table so that we ALL can live in this beautiful town together.
Richard Platt April 15, 2013 at 01:48 am
These ponds were not created for ducks or other waterfowl. They were mill ponds and had small shopsRead More and factories around each one, starting with Fowler's mill near the present Memorial Bridge. Even when I was a kid we NEVER called them duck ponds. The one behind City Hall was the School Pond and the one at Maple Street/North Street was the North Street Pond. It's only in recent years that we have started to call them duck ponds. Please remember that the ducks and other waterfowl are wild animals. They do not exist for our pleasure. I agree that it's fun to feed them for the entertainment of our grandchildren, but that's not why they are there.
David Chesler April 21, 2013 at 04:50 pm
Thanks for offering and showing up Bebe. I know I had prior commitments, and a queue of things to doRead More that wouldn't allow it. Can you describe it the approach and start the discussion here? Or elsewhere online?
Bebe Gallo April 21, 2013 at 03:45 pm
Amy... no one showed up on Sat. @ Care Atlantique. Bebe
Bebe Gallo April 18, 2013 at 04:07 am
David... why are there so many more Canada geese closer to our homes now than several years prior?Read More Basically, because we have given them more to eat and fewer predators. Coyotes, adaptable as they are, aren't serious waterfowl predators. We have created an environment that Canada geese love....lots of lawns! They have taken advantage of that niche...in revenge for our filling in their wetlands? (joking, but we have really messed up the environment) BTW, homeowners can put in adversion plantings that will help deter geese from their lawns. The planting of more shrubs, etc., and smaller lawn areas would make the latter less attractive as well. There is far less hunting for the dinner table market. Professional hunters used to kill 100s of geese & ducks each day during migration, to sell as food. Many in Chesepeake Bay made this their living, almost wiping out the birds. Captive breeding and releasing of "decoy" geese into hunting preserves to attract wild geese for hunters to shoot. These birds are accumated to man and have their flight feathers clipped, preventing them from flying that year. Never migrating w/ their parents as most young wild geese would, they have no instinct to leave. When they breed, their young stay as well. Feeding LARGE volumes of food by humans keeps them in that location. Global warming? They don't need to go as far south as in years past to find areas suitable for wintering over.
Krista April 15, 2013 at 01:51 am
There is a problem there ---But it is not the WHITE NON FLYING GEESE or the ducks ... There is aRead More problem with the Canadian Geese flying in - so someone is charge just needs to look it up on Google what other areas have done to take back their ponds .. I however will still take care of The White Geese and ducks and feed them the proper food if I can find my White Geese they have been MIA for a few days now and better be ok, otherwise you will find this low key law abiding citizen getting loud.
Dawn Curtis Diglio April 13, 2013 at 07:40 pm
Ducks only? How would one even enforce such a ridiculous proposal? Good luck with that!
RONALD M GOLDWYN April 12, 2013 at 05:12 am
I'm sorry but I would like a goose free park that is for the ducks only. I'd like children to goRead More fishing in the river without walking in poop. I'd like the government to enforce the laws passed by the Board of Aldermen or eliminate the law after two years of no enforcement. That would be the Mayor's way of using a veto. or ask the BOA to have a civilian bounty on enforcing the pooper scooper laws.
Starla April 8, 2013 at 05:19 am
Canadian geese are a problem all over the northeast. They are vegetarian by nature and eat mostlyRead More grass. They used to be a migrating bird, but since they found plenty of green lawns from homes, industrial parks, the lawns around suburban office buildings, they just stopped migrating. Why travel when lunch is right here? There is a chemical that when sprayed on the lawn, it upsets the bird's stomach. They quickly learn to avoid that particular area. We used it in our condo complex lawns last summer. It worked great.
Starla April 8, 2013 at 05:09 am
Cats, even feral ones, almost always bury their poop.
Starla April 8, 2013 at 05:07 am
Simple solution, don't let your dog poop where he wants to. Keep him leashed and make him poopRead More where you instruct him to. If he won't do it, take him back inside for an hour. Then repeat. If still no poop, do it again. Trust me, after doing this a few times, he will learn.

So true, Stacy. I see pet waste along many of our sidewalks. Almost as bad, I also see filled petRead More waste bags thrown on the ground. I mean, at least the owners attempted to clean up after their dog, but after that effort they just couldn't bring themselves to complete the task and take the bag home to dispose of it properly. Actions like this make me wonder in what direction this town is headed. I frequently think of moving...doesn't seem enough people care about this issue.
Stacy Hanks March 28, 2013 at 06:51 pm
And wouldn't it be great if dog owners pitched in and cleaned up after their pets! The city'sRead More 'Pooper Scooper' Law seems impossible to enforce. This problem degrades our town and enviroment. It's disheartening for me, as a responsible dog owner, to see the pet waste people leave behind in schoolyards and parks.
