Mayor Blake: Because Experience Does Matter

I’m saddened to see how negative the Milford mayoral campaign has become. There have been baseless and slanderous attacks on Mayor Blake’s record and character, and I would like to correct them.

The fact is: Mayor Blake has a record of clear integrity, robust fiscal management, and strong leadership.  Over the last two years, Mayor Blake has done exactly what he did as an alderman: saved taxpayers millions of dollars. From renegotiating city healthcare and electric rates to implementing cost-saving, energy efficient measures in city facilities: we got exactly the mayor we voted for.

The Spalthoff campaign can’t point to a similar record of accomplishment, and so they shamelessly try to diminish Mayor Blake’s hard work.

But this race is about choosing a leader who will be best for the City. On Tuesday, November 5th, Milford voters will take to the polls and have a choice between two very different candidates for mayor. Mayor Blake – an accomplished leader who has saved the city millions while successfully navigating the city through some of the worst natural disasters in history. And Peter Spalthoff, a former ex-Republican mayoral candidate with a campaign organization that is already resorting to desperate distortions and half-truths in a no-holds-barred bid for power.

At the heart of Mr. Spalthoff’s smear campaign is a recent letter to the editor authored by Erik Smith. Mr. Smith’s claims are so baseless that he can’t produce a single example as to how Mr. Spalthoff would make a better mayor. Sadly, this is the kind of vitriol that we see dividing our politicians in Washington, and it had no place in our city

I am proud to support Ben Blake in his re-election for Mayor of Milford. Mayor Blake has spent the last two years tirelessly working to control spending and increase city efficiencies. And he has done an excellent job. I am excited for the City of Milford's future with Mayor Blake at the helm.
