Preserving Milford's Legacy of Tree Lined Streets

With help from the community, a local nonprofit organization plants trees in town.

They produce oxygen, they're fun to climb and, in a less tangible sense, they contribute to the character of the community. We're talking about trees, of course.

And there's one local nonprofit organization that is all about them -- Milford Trees, Inc. (MTI).

Founded in 2000, MTI's mission is simple:

"To plant trees in Milford to exapnd the Urban Forest and provide a lasting, living legacy of tree lined streets."

It is accomplished by volunteers, donated trees, hard work and some handy grant writing, according to MTI member Bruce Lindsday.

"We have kids from 2 and 3 years old who come to 82-year-olds, so we have a great team of people working and supporting us on all levels," Lindsay said.

But the organization always needs volunteers, support, new members and donations, he noted. To get involved, check out MTI's website.
