Opening up the charter has now formally come before the Aldermen and unfortunately a vote wasn't taken to have a committee formed, as it was tabled. I am happy to see/hear that the Republicans stood their ground in not supporting the idea of opening the charter and I will give you just one of many reasons why I see no need for it to happen. Milford has run well for many, many years under the two year terms that the Mayor has and there are no benefits to the citizens of the City to have that changed. Very simply put. For the most part if the Mayor is doing a
good job the citizens will re-elect him/her and that's been shown for both Democrats and Republicans. However, if the Mayor is doing a poor job and taxes are increased every year, no new ideas are coming out of the office, and proper attention isn't being paid to the job of being Mayor, then 4 years could be a disaster for this or any City. Two year terms have worked, and still do work very well for Milford and I see no real reason to have it changed.
