Veterans Status available on Driver's Licenses

The State of CT is now offering veterans' status on licenses and ID cards.

The Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs (CTDVA) is accepting applications for Military veterans who may qualify to have their status marked on a Connecticut Driver’s License or state-issued ID. The new driver's licenses and state ID cards will start being issued January 2,2013 by the Department of Motor Vehicles and AAA offices. The new licenses will include the symbol of an American flag to show veteran status.

CTDVA will start accepting applications as of November 1, 2012. If your license or ID expiresprior to January 1, 2013, you are still required to renew your license before the expiration date.

This new feature on the CT driver’s license or state-issued ID card will help first responders, emergency rooms and healthcare providers identify veterans that are eligible for programs and services from both the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the VA. In addition it can be used for veteran discounts.
