REP. KIM ROSE LAUDS KENNEL DISCLOSURE BILL
State Rep. Kim Rose (D-Milford) today lauded passage of a bill she championed that will protect pet lover consumers from deceitful kennel facilities that do not comply with local business codes.
H.B. 5039 will require anyone advertising their facility as a kennel to include a license number in all advertising.

“There are dozens of websites that allow people to advertise their services as a kennel without obtaining the proper licensing, insurance or meeting professional kennel-related requirements,” Rep. Rose said. “I have been pushing to get his legislation passed as a consumer protection measure for animal lovers who brought to my attention several concerns from fraudulent kennel practices.”
The bill will require those offering pet boarding and kennel services to be licensed and follow public safety regulations as well as sanitation, treatment of dogs or cats and overall business codes, including zoning regulations, licensing and insurance fees.

“Our pets are members of our family. They deserve to be cared for and served by legitimate businesses that know how to properly handle them, and are prepared for emergencies resulting from services provided by the facility of choice,” Rose said.
The measure now moves to the senate for consideration before the legislative session adjourns May 7.
