Foran Grad Named Player of the Week for Soccer

Shelley Mirmina, a senior at Albertus Magnus, gets conference nod for a strong week.

Senior women’s soccer player Shelley Mirmina of Milford has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week as announced Monday afternoon.

Mirmina, a graduate of Foran High School, tallied eight points on the week on three goals and two assists as the Albertus Magnus Falcons went 2-0.

Mirmina registered a hat trick on Wednesday when the Falcons downed Mount Ida College, 6-1. She now has a team-high six goals on the year and a team-best 16 points. She also leads the Falcons with 62 shots. The senior leads the league in that category.

Mirmina also registered eight of her 16 total points during last week’s competition.

Overall, Albertus is now 7-3-2 in 2013, and is set to face off with the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in New Haven. That contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
