The following email was sent to parents and guardians of West Shore Middle School on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 4:30 p.m. in response to the student arrest last Friday, where a 13-year-old was arrested for allegedly punching a teacher and later trying to grab a cop's gun:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As many of you may know, an incident occurred this past Friday involving a teacher being hit by a student. The student later had an altercation with a police officer a good distance away from school grounds. At no time was the safety or well-being of any student put in jeopardy.
This was an isolated incident.
While I am not at liberty to discuss the specifics due to confidentiality laws, I can tell you that the matter is being pursued, and the student involved in the situation is being dealt with consistent with district policy.
While this has been an unfortunate and disturbing situation, please know that the school environment is safe for your child. I want to assure you that the safety of our students is, and continues to be, our number one priority.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Respectfully,
Vince
