Stella Patrick is a Whiz Kid!

Stella has been awarded Pop Warner's Scholar Athletic.

Volunteering, cheerleading, softball and volleyball, plus A’s in school…  Stella Patrick is definitely a Whiz Kid.

Stella Patrick, 11, is a sixth-grader at West Shore Middle School.  Her favorite subject is math.

“I’m really good at adding and subtracting,” said Stella.

Stella’s school experiences have been so good, she hopes to become a teacher when she grows up.

“…Because I like to learn and help kids learn,” explained Stella.

Stella is also involved in sports – softball and volleyball, in season, and right now, cheerleading.  She is an accomplished cheerleader with Milford Pop Warner Cheerleading and Football, the largest cheerleading and football league in Milford, with over 400 kids participating.  Stella has been cheerleading with Pop Warner for five years, and has been awarded the Pop Warner Scholar Athletic Award for her athleticism combined with her good grades – mostly A’s.

“When you achieve a certain grade point average, you get an award for it at the end of the year,” Stella explained.

Milford Patch first encountered Stella when we did a story about her family.  Every summer, through a volunteer organization called The Fresh Air Fund, the Patricks host Isaiah Miller, 12, a disadvantaged child from Brooklyn.

Stella Patrick has become like a sister to Isaiah, despite the challenges of living with a boy with limited social skills.  Often, Isaiah will call Stella throughout the year to talk about his problems at home.  Stella is always there for him.

Being a stand-in sister for Isaiah is not the only volunteering Stella has done.

Stella thought about service she’s done, and proudly told Patch, “I do school orientations. …I take the kids around the school for a tour, and I’ve been doing that for two years. …I did one at JFK [elementary school], and I did one at Pumpkin Delight [elementary school in Milford].”

Outside of school and sports, Stella likes to do what most kids her age like to do.

“I like hanging out with friends,” she said.

Congratulations Stella! You are a Whiz Kid!
