Milford Pays $20,000 for Costs Associated with Maren Sanchez's Stabbing

Costs include counseling services and food

There is no way to calculate the psychological toll the April 25 stabbing death of Jonathan Law Junior Class President Maren Sanchez, 16, had on the Milford community.

But unfortunately, there is also a financial cost to the city as well. The Board of Education approved budget transfers at its meeting Monday night.

Part of the reason for the transfers is because the city received a $20,000 bill for items that were not covered by insurance relating to Sanchez’s death, said James L. Richetelli Jr., who is the school system’s chief operations officer.

Richetelli said a bulk of the $20,000 relates to counseling costs that were not covered by insurance. He said the counseling totaled hundreds of hours and a lot was covered by insurance but not all of it. He also said a small fraction of the $20,000 was spent on purchasing food during that emergency period.
