Legend of Milford's Wandering Cow Now Told In a Children's Book

Cow eluded authorities for months

On Wednesday, John Androite – a children’s author visited Calf Pen Meadow Elementary to talk about his new book and to visit with the children at the school.

But this wasn’t any book, it was inspired by a wandering cow that several years ago captured the attention of the Milford community. The cow kept wandering throughout Milford and its whereabouts remained a mystery for months before it was finally captured and taken to a farm.

Here is the release from school officials:

Androite’s book was just published (2014) … and it’s called Wilhelmina Goes Wandering.  The book is centered on the real-life escapades that occurred on the grounds of Calf Pen Meadow School (and the marshes behind it) – when a cow and some deer – were eluding the Animal Control officers and the local police for several weeks.

I personally remember the ‘Cow Sightings’ that were posted all over (facebook, twitter, etc.). I remember this was ‘big’ – EVERYONE was talking about it.

Anyway – John Androite thought this would make a fun children’s book – and he has completed the project.

FURTHER – you may know that Calf Pen’s school mascot is a cow – and so, when Androite comes to visit the school assembly – they will officially be renaming their school mascot “Wilhelmina” in honor of the book.  I understand that teacher Amy Tarini was incognito – (in a cow costume) – and will set the stage for the visit with Androite
