JLHS Post Prom Committee Wants You to Shop for a Cause

Starting April 4, the large discount shopping group Retail 101 will take over the Jonathan Law High School "old" gym. The company will be donating a portion of its proceeds from the sale to this year's committee.

If you like shopping without paying high retail prices, then this event is for you.

Starting Friday, April 4, the large discount shopping group, Retail 101, will completely occupy the Jonathan Law High School (JLHS) “old” gym.

Doors will open promptly at 2:30 p.m., and people will be able to pick through bins and bins of brand names at ridiculously low prices.

In offering last year’s trends, Retail 101 is able to considerably reduce ticket prices anywhere from $5 to $25. We are talking top quality brand name men’s and women’s apparel, shoes, accessories and more will be on sale.

And it will continue all weekend long!

In an effort to raise funds for its Post Prom, the Jonathan Law Post Prom Committee needed a huge moneymaker.

Not only are raised funds needed to secure a venue after the prom, but it’s also used to offer kids food, entertainment, and raffle prizes, ensuring a wonderful alcohol-‐free night kids will never forget.

Enter Retail 101.

With the company donating a portion of its large-grossing proceeds as a fundraiser, it seemed like a no-brainer for the JLHS Post Prom Committee.
Committee Chair Elena Garet seized the opportunity and quickly put the wheels in motion.

And, in only three short weeks, a date was set. The only thing the committee needed was support from the high school.

Typically located as a retail store out of Beacon Falls, it also travels for “trunk” shows, but needs a 5,000 square foot or more area to accommodate all the clothes.

“The support, cooperation and encouragement that we have received from our principal and the entire administration has been endless,” said Garet, also a junior parent. The Post Prom Committee is an entirely parent-run organization that functions completely outside of the school and has been working tirelessly since October to raise the needed money to sponsor the Post Prom, which will be held on April 25 at the Shelton Sports Complex.

"It's amazing that we were able to pull this event off in such a short period of time considering that Retail 101 events are booked months, sometimes a year in advance AND the gyms at JLHS are constantly booked on the weekend,” said Garet, also a junior parent. “I feel that the stars really lined up for us since we were able to find the ONLY weekend where both were available. This is a great sign, and I know this will be a highly successful fundraiser for JLHS Post Prom."

Jonathan Law Principal Fran Thompson couldn’t agree more. “We are so grateful for the Post Prom Committee and their incredible efforts to keep our kids safe after the Prom. It’s a huge undertaking and fundraisers like Retail 101 will help the community and help this very special event for our kids!”

And for the Milford as this three-day event will surely draw large numbers.

“Of course this is important to our fundraising activities, this it also provides a great benefit to Milford families,” said Garet. “As a volunteer fundraising organization, we are all about giving back.”

Hours will be Friday, April 4, 2:30 p.m. – 9 pm.; Saturday, April 5, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Sunday, April 6, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Cash and all major credit cards accepted.
