Edward Schuck Named Interim Foran Principal

Schuck will remain at Foran through the end of the school year while a search for a permanent replacement continues.

Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Feser announced the appointment of Edward F. Schuck to the post of Interim Principal at Joseph A. Foran High School.

The position needs to be filled due to the planned departure of Principal John Barile in early January. Mr. Barile was recently appointed Superintendent of the Bethany School System. Mr. Schuck will remain at Foran through the end of the school year while a search for a permanent replacement continues.

Schuck brings a wealth of experience to the district, having served as a professional educator 36 years. He received his B.A. in Education/Social Studies from Fairfield University continuing his professional education at Fairfield, from which he received his M.A. in Counseling and his Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration.

Schuck spent the bulk of his career in the Stratford Public School system. He began his work as a teacher in 1967 at Frank Scott Bunnell High School in social studies where he also coached cross country and served as a senior class advisor.

In 1973 he moved into the counseling department as a career specialist for three years. He then served as the school’s head guidance counselor for 10 years.
In 1986, Schuck was named the assistant principal at Bunnell High School. Six years later, in 1992 when the principal’s position at Bunnell became available, Schuck was selected for the job – a position he held for the next 12 years.

As Principal, Mr. Schuck led Bunnell High during a period of rapid growth as enrollment increased from 800 to 1400 students. While at Bunnell, he cultivated a school climate that valued sharing decision-making and responsibility with staff members, parents, and community members.

Mr. Schuck retired from the Stratford Public Schools in 2004. Since then he has served as an Interim Principal several times throughout the state, including a period at Foran High School in 2008 when Mr. Michael Cummings was appointed Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. He has also been involved in consulting work focusing on the development of educational specifications for building projects, and coordinating professional development programs.
Mr. Schuck will assume the role of Interim Principal at Foran on January 2nd. He is expected to continue to address the needs of students, staff and the building as a whole as well as the school goals.
“With his high school expertise and knowledge of Foran High School, we anticipate a smooth transition,” said Dr. Feser. “Moreover, we believe Mr. Schuck will be able to get done what is needed to position Foran well for its permanent successor.”
