Saturday Is Market Day

Saturday's farmers' market, more than just a place to shop.

In the wee hours of the morning veggies are being harvested, breads and goodies are being baked, eggs are being gathered, coolers are being packed, trucks are being loaded, and vendors are on their way.  Saturday is market day in downtown Milford, where people gather from not only Milford, but also surrounding towns, to shop, visit, chat, and enjoy some wonderful music.

The Milford Downtown Farmers' market is also a great place to bring the children...they can listen to some music, have their face painted for free, spend some time at an interactive natural playdough booth.

The market is also a place where children (and adults)  have the opportunity to learn something, such as how wool is spun, how bees produce honey, how soap is made, and much more.  All of the vendors are "experts in their field", as they all not only tend their market booths, but they are the very ones growing, harvesting, creating and producing their products, and welcome your questions.

This market offers everything you would need to create a natural, healthy meal for the family.  There is natural grass fed beef, pork, sausage and other meats, fresh eggs and goat cheese, honey and products made from the hive, natural soap and natural made products, jams and jellies, vegetable plants, perennials, decorative plants for your garden, pies, organic baked goods, beautiful fresh picked greens, veggies, fruits and berries, fresh made soups and Brazilian empadas, sheep and alpaca fiber, and the list just goes on and on.

The market is also a place where you can give to those in need.  Each week there is a donation basket and jar at the face painting booth, where we accept non-perishable items to then be donated to a local organization.  We've located this basket in that area because we are trying to encourage children to become involved by making a donation; they can put an item into the basket and then have their face or hand painted.

Face painting is always free, and donations are encouraged but not required. While at the market there is always some great music to entertain you. This week, Robert Messore will be with us, playing his acoustic guitar.

So start your weekend off on a happy note; pick up something fresh, give a little something to those in need, visit with old friends and maybe make some new ones and come see why we are more than just a market.

The Downtown Farmers' Market is a gem of Milford. Being able to get fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local agriculture is a great way to start the weekend!
Also, one of the stores just up the street runs a fresh fish market at the same time, so you can help multiple local merchants while stocking your fridge with the best that Milford has to offer in one trip!

Hi Pam!!!
Where is that? is it on the green with the statues? it sounds like fun. We used to enjoy the one in wallingford, it was small but nice, and within walking distance...

Great article Sabrina. I just wanted to comment that Milford is so fortunate to have 3 Farmer's Markets! On Wed. there is one at Robert Treat, Saturday is Downtown and on Sunday there is one at the Village of Devon, 120 Bridgeport Ave. All markets offer different shopping days as a convenience as well as different vendors. In addition to bringing out crowds they have also found the "niche" with locals and neighbors which is a great boost to community spirit. No matter what day you shop or which market you shop, they are a great addition to our wonderful city.

To clarify, they have 4 cats, and they're only able to take two of them, plus their 14 year old dog.Read More It was a struggle for them to even find a way to get the dog in the rental agreement, otherwise they would have tried to take them. :(

Sad that they had to leave these beauties behind. I'm sure they are heartbroken over it.

Please contact Forgotten Felines in Clinton. They are a no kill cat shelter. Offering "free toRead More a good home" pets is dangerous. There are bad people out there who take them and sell them to research labs or use them as bait in dog fighting. Please rethink this ad.
