POLL: Would You Like to See Highway Tolls Back in CT?

Connecticut’s highways have been toll-free for almost 30 years - but that could be about to change.
Last week, managers from highway toll systems met in Hartford and Bridgeport on panels sponsored by the state transportation department, according to The Hartford Courant.

The panels discussed developments in toll technology and highway funding. The Connecticut tolls on the I-95 closed in 1985 following a tractor-trailer crash that killed seven people, The Hartford Courant reports. But now advocates say highway tolls can reduce traffic jams and raise money for the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

"Traffic congestion affects everyone — undermining the economy and detracting from citizens' quality of life," the Department of Transportation said, according to The Republic.
