Milford's Mayoral Candidates Making Final Push For Your Vote

The candidates will be out around the city campaigning this weekend. Here's where.

It's the last weekend before Election Day and Milford's mayoral candidates are making their final push to get your vote.

Milford Patch reached out to the mayoral candidates and asked them where they'll be. Each has a packed schedule which includes canvassing neighborhoods, rallies and marching in . Here's the scoop:

Today, Nov. 5:

  • Bob Joy -- Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. myself and the rest of the Republican ticket will be meeting on the steps of City Hall for a rally. From there, after coffee and donuts, I along with the other candidates will be dispersing throughout the city to knock on doors.
  • Ben Blake -- I’ll be at Headquarters (486 Bridgeport Avenue) at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and from there will be making phone calls and canvassing the neighborhoods of Milford for our final push.

Sunday, Nov. 6:

  • Ben Blake: I'll be at Headquarters (486 Bridgeport Avenue) at 9:30 a.m. again and from there will be making phone calls and canvassing the neighborhoods of Milford. I plan to be at the Veterans' Day parade by 1:30 p.m.

  • Bob Joy: On Sunday I will be marching in the veterans day parade and then attending the veterans concert at city hall. If there is daylight left I will be out knocking on doors again.

Election Day, Nov. 8:

  • Bob Joy: On Election Day I will be visiting polling places throughout the city. At 8 p.m. on election night the Republican party will be gathering at .

  • Ben Blake: On Tuesday, I’ll be shuttling back and forth to the various poll locations and will be awaiting the results at our headquarters.

If you see the candidates around town this weekend, let everyone know in the comments below and snap a pic and upload it here for everyone to see!

Editor's note: Milford Patch's request for this information from Independent candidate Rocco Frank went unanswered.

The CT POST has endorsed Bob Joy for Mayor of Milford! Congratulations to Bob and the Republican Team! From the Editorial "he brings a clear-eyed perspective and a level-headed approach that will serve him well as the city's top elected official."
RONALD M GOLDWYN November 05, 2011 at 12:30 PM
I'll be at City Hall at 10AM today, then visiting my neighbors in the 2nd District. On Sunday, and Monday I again will be visiting in the 2nd district and come Election Day, You will find me at Meadowside School while many colleagues will also be at the JFK school. I urge all to vote. Ron Goldwyn, The most experienced candidate for the PZB in District #2 I’d love a 74th birthday present from you on Election day.
Michael Brown November 05, 2011 at 12:53 PM
The CT Post has NEVER endorsed a Democrat in Milford. Another quote from the article, "Less comforting is Joy's spotty voting record, both in public elections and on the Board of Aldermen." And by the way, President John McCain was also endorsed by the Post in 2008.
Michael Brown November 05, 2011 at 01:05 PM
I'll be following Ron Goldwyn around - making snarky remarks whenever he speaks. Just kidding. Have a good weekend.
RONALD M GOLDWYN November 05, 2011 at 01:08 PM
Mr Brown, more sour grapes? I like all your postings, as it lets more voters become aware of BOB JOY's major newspaper endorsements. As for who asked me, I thought it was you who has been urging me on. Come election night I will celebrate on only diet soda.
Rich Smith November 05, 2011 at 05:29 PM
Great for Bob Joy. Congratulations. So, the final tally is 2 each. Bob gets the endorsement of the Bridgeport and New Haven papers, Ben gets the endorsement of people who actually know Milford, Milford's Police Union and Milford's Hometown paper. I know I may not be objective here but isn't it fair to say that the Milford Mirror actually knows the candidates because they cover them day in and day out over the years? Isn't fair to say Milford's Police Union knows the two candidates? Isn't it also true that the two big city newspaper that endorsed Bob did not ask for input from their local reporters and isn't it true that they interviewed the candidates for less than 20 minutes? Nonetheless, getting an endorsement is better than a stick in the eye so, congratulations.
RONALD M GOLDWYN November 05, 2011 at 06:18 PM
Rich, you are most cordial in your posting but please don't equate a police union's endorsement with that of the two major newspapers of the area. As in a prior posting the aim of a union is to get the most benefits for their members. In order to do this they must tackle the Milford administration, and it is simple logic that they pick the administration where they think they can get the most gains, so they chose the Democrats, knowing the Republicans will be the harder to negotiate with. As for the Milford Mirror, I suggest they rename the paper the "Milford Democrat". I say this because this paper is free to chose their endorsement on their editorial page, but when they post 14 letters to the editor from Democrats and only 1 letter from Republicans, I'd say they are less than neutral or impartial. Rich Smith you may count the vote as 2 - 2, but I don't count the union vote as an endorsement, but strictly an internal vote of that union in working with an administration. RON GOLDWYN I’d love a 74th birthday present from you on Election day.
TB November 05, 2011 at 07:57 PM
What an election cycle! I went out to get the newspaper this morning only to find a brigade of Ben Blake supporters running around my neighborhood reminding people to vote. It’s so inspiring to see a candidate that can rally that much grass roots support. Keep up the good work Ben, you got my vote!
RONALD M GOLDWYN November 05, 2011 at 08:42 PM
TB Just how many Republicans have you met. Most of us had a rally on the City Hall steps this morning and then spread out to our individual districts. Good work Bob, you have my vote. RON GOLDWYN I’d love a 74th birthday present from you on Election day.
Rich Smith November 05, 2011 at 11:00 PM
Ron, it's good to hear that Bob has now earned your vote. I would have hoped at least the folks on the ticket with him would have endorsed him much earlier. But thank you for your honesty. TB, yes, the Blake campaign fielded 300 volunteers today who all went out around town carrying Ben's message and to remind people to vote on Tuesday. The response by Milford's voters has been incredible. Ben took his time to prepare for this race, eight years of budgets, ordinances, resolutions, late night meetings, spirited debates . . . and the people of Milford seem to get that. Ben is uniquely qualified, I myself heard it from several people I spoke to today, They nod, knowingly and say, "yeah, we like Ben, he has experience and we think that's important."

Tough vote this election, do we go for Blake and oppose $700.00 office chairs and donations to trash museums, or do we go for Joy and oppose pre-9/11 political signage and inappropriately named Halloween Headstones. Now that I think of it the person who opposed the 3 Million wasted on the Overbuilt fire staion and the 1.2 million overspent on the grove street sewage pump was not even mentioned... I wonder why? Vote Independent!!!
Michael Brown November 06, 2011 at 12:38 PM
Aren't you also the guy that tried to sell your endorsement to the highest bidder.
Joe ,Meade November 06, 2011 at 01:40 PM
in the words of my 80 year old mom, "If you don't have something nice to say, shut the hell up". The voters are tired of the petty bickering here and in Washington. Support your candidate and let everyone else support theirs. It's petty and childish and makes you look like an adult who doesn't get it. That's as nice as I can put it!

Joe do not let Mike Brown upset you he is a known internet Troll working for the Socialist Left wing of the Democratic Party. His words are of no consequence to anyone lest they are unaware of his "agent provacatour" agenda. Sadly, Mike would support some very EVIL people if they had the Blessing of his Party. His votes are always 100% Democrat, and his comments have always been highly inflammatory. On other blogs there have been hundreds of complaints filed with blog administrators against him and yet somehow he still manages to irrate people on the internet. Mike not only tarnishes the Democratic party Brand, but is also the one part of Free Speech we could all live without.
RONALD M GOLDWYN November 06, 2011 at 03:33 PM
Rocco, In your last posting, as a Republican, I join with you in your condemnation of Mr Brown's poison pen postings. I have a number of Democratic friends who have said he is an embarassment to their party.
Michael Brown November 06, 2011 at 04:04 PM
You are not a troll if you use your real name. I am now bathing in the hatred of Ron Goldwyn and Rocco Frank. May our paths never cross.
Joe Della Monica November 06, 2011 at 07:15 PM
Every person who has been out campaigning, knocking on doors and stumping at their local donut shop or grocery store has my respect. In my first year of campaigning I have witnessed some ugly and disrespectful behavior on the part of very few. I have also seen the desire of my fellow candidates to make Milford a better place to work, live and play. It is truely time for Republicans, Democrats and Independents to focus on what the voters of Milford want and need. The best local government they can vote into office. If there are those who wish to find continued fault in those runnung for office, I have a suggestion. I say push the key board away, shut the computer off, grab some literature and knock on some doors and meet the people who really count.

The Final Push Last day before the big Vote!!
Cliff November 08, 2011 at 10:46 AM
The CT post came out and endorsed Bob JOy. Reading this endorsement one has to wonder how they came to this conclusion. The reasons they gave are sovery meaningless and it makes it very clear that they are not tuned into the issues that the voters in Milford are really concerned about. I suggest that in the future if the CT Post is going to endorse a candidate they first do some serious research.
Cliff November 08, 2011 at 10:54 AM
So the Connecticut Post has endorsed Bob Joy. Reading the reasons why they endorsed him makes it very clear that they do not have a clear vision on the needs of the citizens in Milford. Their reasons are very superficial and it shows that they did not do any real research before making their decision. If a newspaper is going to try to influence voters in a local election they have an obligation to be very detailed as to why they support a candidate. In this case it just didn't happen.
Rocco Frank Milford Independents November 08, 2011 at 02:08 PM
Cliff papers are run by Democrats and Republicans, they are the opinion of ONE PERSON with an opinion. I could give you Three endorsements I recieved this year but I will not BC they are meaningless and garner no votes. In 2007 I spent 30K Running for office in the 118th. This year I spent 99% less and no where near the 1/4 Million spent by my 2 opponents. In this economy I cannot justify asking people for money, or wasting it on what amounts to massive amounts of blight like litter. Ask your self this, has an expensive Billboard or sign ever changed your vote?
Alex November 08, 2011 at 02:14 PM
Shouldn't you be out selling yourself to the voters?
Cliff November 08, 2011 at 02:35 PM
I understand that billboards ,flyers and yard signs are not the way candidates get elected but it irks me when a newspaper supports a local candidate yet they do not really understand the issues in the local community. Go Ben Blake!!

The three endorsments - You, your wife, and your mother.
Rocco Frank Milford Independents November 08, 2011 at 03:37 PM
Cliff the problem with elections is the VOTERS, they are unable to properly follow issues, they are unwilling to learn about our local candidates, the majority of people who will vote this election, about 60% (my estimates) are followers, sheep being led by their Party Herder to the polls. I expect that only about 1/3 of the voters out there will have any useful critical thinking skills. While I was out protesting the Kleptocracy of which is our new form of local government, our Kleptocrats were making our key issues Chairs, Halloween Headstones, Museum Donations, charitable Give Aways, and how much noise we make not to mention Political signs being put out too early. Voters like TB above is the kind of individual who fits this level of thinking quite nicely, his malice and discord is a demonstrable testiment to how his mind has been shaped and controlled. But he is not to blame, as he is only one of several thousand voters this election who probably has no clue that both Blake and Joy voted to overpay 3.25 Million on the New Haven Ave. Firehouse, he also is very likely to have no idea about how his party voted to overpay 1.2M for a Sewage pump on Grove Street, nor does he know that the elevator at Orange ave. was 75K over budget. Like countless thousands he believes in the writings and innuendos of either Ben Snake, and Bob Ploy. I am not certain who he represents perhaps he will clarify and justify his support of his candidate with a well thought out logical statement.
