Milford Police Chief Asks Citizens to Remove Snow from Sidewalks in Front of Their Homes

"It is important that residents remove the snow from the sidewalks in front of their homes, so that our children will be able to safely walk to their bus stops and that our schools can re-open," said Chief Mello.

On February 13, 2013 a message was sent to residents and businesses in the City of Milford through the “Milford Alerts System”. The message is as follows:

Hello, this is the Chief of Police, Keith Mello. I would like to speak to you regarding an important public safety message.

I realize that all of you have been impacted by the unprecedented snow storm that we experienced last Friday and into Saturday. Removing the snow from our streets, driveways and walks has been a significant challenge for everyone.

While the Public Works Department continues to clear snow from our roadways, it is important that residents remove the snow from the sidewalks in front of their homes, so that our children will be able to safely walk to their bus stops and that our schools can re-open.

Fortunately, the snow pack has been reduced with the milder weather and now is a good time to clear your sidewalks and make our community safer for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and have a good night.

I just want to say I'm thankful to all of the city and state employees that have been working around the clock for days clearing our streets and places of business, education, and worship. The task has been almost incomprehensible and we probably can't truly understand what a tremendous effort has gone forth on our behalf.

Good to see volunteers getting into the spirit of things by shoveling sidewalks! Seriously people...every year there are sidewalks that go on uncleared through EVERY STORM! If you're a homeowner, and there's a sidewalk in front of your house...CLEAR IT! It's a fairly simple concept to grasp. Now, if you find that you're the sedentary type and you have no interest (or are physically unable) to shovel...THEN HIRE SOMEONE!

The Chief and the Mayor need to get on the same page! Seriously The Mayor is having City payloaders move the snow from the streets and place 15ft walls of snow on homeowners sidewalks! AS WE SPEAK!
