Milford Eye on the Beltway: Senator Wants Micro Grids

And Chris Murphy questions whether "complexify" is a real word.

BLUMENTHAL: The senator urged the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee at a hearing on Thursday to review the Mutual Assistance Group system, so that all states have access to adequate numbers of line crews during extreme weather. He also advised the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to provide incentives for utilities to establish micro grids.

Blumenthal said the micro grids would "will help ensure that at least a portion of the town or city has some electricity during the next big storm" and that policies are needed to "encourage self-managed, vertically-integrated designs that realize the investments that are being made right now."

Blumenthal requested the hearing in response to and the  that left millions in the Northeast without power for weeks last year.

LIEBERMAN: In an interview with the Washington Post, the senator defended presidential candidate Mitt Romney's right to practice Mormonism, saying that he is "running as an American, not a Mormon." He also offered his thoughts on Syria, Turkey and Iran.

HIMES: The congressman is scheduled to appear at a legislative forum hosted by the Friends of Autistic People (FAP) and Greenwich Education Group on Sunday, April 29 at 1:15-2:15 p.m. The event will be held at 44 Commerce Road near Shop Rite and parents and teachers of children with autism are encouraged to attend.

DELAURO: The congresswoman made a statement before the Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee on Wednesday on the 2013 budget allocations put forward by the House Republican Majority, which will cut non-discretionary defense spending.

"For the second year in a row, the House Majority has put forward an allocation that ensures our government cannot meet its basic responsibilities to the American people," she said in her statement.

MURPHY: The congressman used Twitter to ask whether a word he heard someone use was just that:

"In meeting, health care co. CEO just used the verb 'complexify.' Is that a word? If so, I plan to use it."

Well, according to Merriam-Webster's website, the answer is yes.
