UPDATE: Democrats Sweep Milford

Update at 11:31 p.m.:

119th District Republican candidate Pam Staneski has issued the following concession statement:

Well, no loss is easy to accept. But James and I ran a good-fought campaign. The people have spoken, and I know James has the best interests of the people of Milford and Orange. This isn't going to stop me from advocating for the things I'm passionate about. I look forward to working with our new state representative in the 119th to make things better for Milford and Orange.

Update at 9:28 p.m.:

Gayle Slossberg, James Maroney, Kim Rose, Paul Davis and Chris Murphy have all won, making it a clean sweep for Democrats in Milford.

Update at 8:57 p.m.:

Slossberg is up 9,928 votes in Milford and West Haven, so far. She's gotten 20,494 votes to DeGrego's 10,566 

Update at 8:52 p.m.:

Waiting on Harborside (118) and High Plains (119). Kim Rose currently has 64.2% of the vote to Michael Casey's 35.8% of the vote. Maroney is leading with 52.1% to Staneski's 47.9%.

Update at 8:01 p.m.:

As of 6:30-7:00 p.m., The Milford Registrar of Voters is reporting 66% voter turnout.

A Word From the 118th District Rep. Candidates:

Today, Milford Patch caught up with some of the candidates. The Republican 118th District Representative Candidate Michael Casey said, "It seems like a really good turnout" and noted that he will be at Crush Sports Cafe tonight.

Casey's opponent, Democratic incumbent Kim Rose was shaking hands with constituents at polling places. "I get no sleep the night before," Rose said. Describing her Election Day ritual, Rose laughed and said that she "drinks a lot of coffee."

Foran High School Polls

 William "Skip" Ziebell, Moderator at the Foran High School Polls, said it's been a "great turnout. Really heavy."

Petition Against Citizens United

Gary Witte, the Pastor at Woodmont United Church of Christ, was outside collecting over 60 signatures for a petition against the recent Supreme Court Decision about Citizens United. He explained that the petition was to "ask for a constitutional amendment" and "support Democracy."

Good morning, and welcome to Election Day 2012!

Today, Milford residents go to the polls to choose a president, a U.S. Senator, a U.S. Representative from the 3rd Congressional District, state representatives for the 117th, 118th and 119th districts, and a state Senator in the 14th District.

See below for information on where to cast your ballot and the list of candidates. We've also included how Milford voted in 2008, the year of the last presidential election, and 2010, the last mid-term election.

Read it over, then visit your local polling station between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. to make your voice heard! And be sure to check back with Patch for updates throughout the day, including the announcement of the winners as soon as votes are tallied tonight.

State and National Races

U.S. Senate

Chris Murphy (D) and Linda McMahon (R) are vying for the seat vacated by Joe Lieberman. (Click on "U.S. Senate" for updates, results and reactions.)

Third Congressional District

The challenger, Wayne Winsley (R), is hoping to unseat incumbent Rosa L. DeLauro (D) (Click on "Third Congressional District" for updates, results and reactions.)

117th District

Paul Davis, a Democrat, is running unopposed to reclaim his seat.

118th District

The challenger, Republican Michael Casey, is hoping to unseat incumbent Kim Rose, a Democrat.

119th District

The race has Democrat James Maroney and Republican Pam Staneski facing off for the seat previously held by Richard Roy, who is not running for re-election.

14th Senate District

Gayle Slossberg, a Democrat, is running against Mike DeGrego, a Republican.
