Connecticut Lottery Officials Get Hefty Bonuses

Top managers of the agency got bonuses of as much as 10 percent recently.

Top officials with the Connecticut Lottery Corp. were recently awarded $170,000 in bonuses, which included bonuses to managers who make more than $100,000 annually.

According to a report in the Journal Inquirer, the quasi-public agency approved the so-called “incentive” payments on Sept. 20 for 17 officials, including 10 who earn six-figure salaries.

Most of the bonuses were just shy of 10 percent, which was also the bonus amount given to lottery President and Chief Executive Officer Anne Noble.

Gale Mattison, vice chairman of the lottery corporation’s board of directors and head of its personnel committee, told the newspaper that the bonuses were deserved.

“This is pay-for-performance,” Mattison said. “Lottery managers are not eligible for ‘longevity pay’ and we’ve had an incentive compensation program for quite a while.”

In 2011 - the 40th anniversary of the Connecticut Lottery Corp. - $1 billion worth of tickets were sold in the state for the first time.

I have news for people...bonuses in private industry are paid out partly on personal performance but mostly company performance. However, to pay out bonuses to personnel who are paid by tax dollars, especially with a 9% unemployment rate in CT, is IMO, immoral....Quantify it as much as you wish, but the state is not performing anywhere close to the levels that would warrant such bonuses to state employers, furthermore, all these other pay increases only indicate the level of unethical and frankly corrupt spending practices taking place by our state gov't.

Ed, you must have missed the payout of millions of dollars of investors money paid out to ceo's of failing companies as they exit the door, is that pay for performance? This is exactly the compensation system taxpayers should want, as opposed to raises to most of the unionize employees that are given for being merely being employed. Cudos to the lottery board.

To clarify, they have 4 cats, and they're only able to take two of them, plus their 14 year old dog.Read More It was a struggle for them to even find a way to get the dog in the rental agreement, otherwise they would have tried to take them. :(

Sad that they had to leave these beauties behind. I'm sure they are heartbroken over it.
