UPDATE: Kim Rose Wins the 118th District

Kim Rose has defeated challenger Michael Casey as the 118th District Representative of Milford in Hartford.

Update at 9:09 p.m.:

It has been reported that Kim Rose has won with 5,699 votes to Casey's 3,273 in Milford.

"It will be my pleasure to go back to Hartford," Kim Rose said.

Original Story:

Michael Casey, a Republican, is challenging incumbent Democrat Kim Rose to represent the 118th District in Hartford.

Michael Casey is an attorney at the Law Firm of Bishop Jackson and Kelly, LLC. He serves on the Planning and Zoning Board of Milford.

In a report by the New Haven Register, the newspaper writes:

One of [Casey]'s main platforms is to simplify state regulations to encourage business growth. He also wants to control spending and lower taxes.

“The State of Connecticut right now is really dire with unemployment and I think part of that is the failure of leadership in Hartford,” Casey said. “I think as a state we have to become more competitive economically.”

Kim Rose, a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Devon Post 7788, serving as its Jr. Vice President for the past 5 years, is running for re-election on the Democrat's ticket. She is working on creating a dog park and community garden in Devon.

In making her case to be re-elected, Rose pointed to her record in a New Haven Register article:

[Rose said] she helped raise the ceiling for small business tax incentives from a maximum of 50 employees to 100. Milford businesses took in around $500,000 for business program benefits during the past year. She said the program has helped retain jobs in both Milford and the state.
