Would You Take a Milford Stay-cation?

In this week's 'Minute with the Mayor', Ben Blake highlights the great offerings Milford has for those wanting to take a stay-cation in the City.

Would it be worth it to save some money and avoid traffic by having a stay-vacation right here in Milford? Mayor Blake makes a case for taking a week off right at home.

We've done many Milford "staycations"...plenty to do with the beaches, local attractions and good food. Like to have a day at the beach, come home and jump in the pool and have a BBQ. Parks and tennis courts all over, too. Hop on the train and go to a Yankees game or the city for a day...or maybe Mystic or Norwalk aquarium. Lots of fun stuff just a short drive.

I've lived in Milford for over 16 years and can honestly say it was the best decision I made. People travel to the Jersey shore or the Cape to get away, but if you look at the shoreline, the homes, etc...There's not a really much of a difference between our town and theirs. We have the beach, we have different events hosted on the green, we have the Oyster festival which has brought great bands to perform in Milford. We have all this. If one was to travel along the shore starting from Walnut beach up to Woodmont beach, you will clearly see we live in a great town that is the perfect place for a stay-cation.

I love to get away but this is the first place I've lived where I'm perfectly content not going away with my time off. Between the beach, great food, etc. it's not a bad time.

I have taken many vacations where I stay at home...however that's because I get 5 weeks a year and can't afford to travel each and every time. I use my stay-cations for spring cleaning, dump runs, doctors appts...etc. and then use the balance of the days relaxing in the yard, or at the pool or beach. However if I had my choice I would go somewhere different for each and every vacation. Just spent the week at Lake George....beautiful. I can do all the local things anytime I want.
