This incident speaks to how crucial it is for every student to be placed in the appropriate educational setting. If a student is a danger to himself or others, a general education classroom is not an appropriate educational setting. I am very disappointed and saddened that the District has failed in this regard. Furthermore, there could be a greater investment in school security personnel. There could be a metal detector and more frequent locker searches. Obviously, there were failures and breakdowns in many areas of the District's system and policies for this to have happened. There should be an immediate review of the student placement policies and procedures and of the school security procedures in the District. What is going on that a student who clearly did not belong in a general education setting was allowed to remain there and actually KILL another student? This is very sad and completely unacceptable for so many people to fail at so many levels.

I would like a committee to be formed in order to investigate this incident. I want that committee to make recommendations. And, I think Superintendent Feser's contract should NOT be renewed. It is horrific that this has happened on her watch.

Was it a known fact that this student was a threat to others?
