Thieves Targeting Unlocked Cars Near Gulf, Cedar Beaches

Milford Police are sending out a crime advisory about the thefts and offering some tips, too.

Milford Police have a message for residents: lock your cars and hide your valuables.

A rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles in the Gulf and Cedar beach areas of the city is what prompted police to issue the crime advisory.

Police say the thefts took place in the following areas:

  • Commodore Place 
  • Captains Walk
  • Wilbar Avenue
  • Seaview Avenue 
  • Sand Street 

"Investigation revealed that the vehicles targeted were left unlocked prior to the thefts taking place," police said. "Coins, glasses, music CDs and a camera were taken from the vehicles." 

The thefts took place between the hours of 10 p.m. on Aug. 5 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 6, according to police.

"Residents are encouraged to keep their car doors locked, remove valuable items from their vehicles, take advantage of outdoor lighting and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods to the police department," the report states. 

In addition, a crime advisory message will be sent through the “Milford Alerts” system, advising residents of the incidents and encouraging them to report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. 

Residents not registered with the citywide notification system can do so by visiting www.milfordpd.org and clicking on the “Milford Alerts” banner.
