Spate of Car Break-Ins Reported in Milford

Police have a simple message: Lock your car doors.

Milford police are telling residents to lock their cars after a spate of citywide break-ins was reported overnight Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The department is investigating reported thefts “in the areas of” Dogwood Place, Housatonic Drive, Eastern Parkway, Saint Andrews Lane, Augusta Drive, Masters Lane, Knollwood Road and Founders Way.

“Investigation revealed that a majority of the vehicles targeted were left unlocked prior to the thefts taking place,” department spokesman Jeff Nielsen said in a statement. “Laptops computers, iPods and money were taken from the vehicles.”

In addition to the obvious message to lock car doors, police are advising residents to remove valuable items from their vehicles, take advantage of outdoor lighting and report any suspicious activity to police by calling 203.877.1465 or submitting a crime tip online at www.milfordpd.org.

Residents can also sign up to receive crime advisory messages through the citywide notification system by visiting the department's website and clicking “Milford Alerts.”
