Bus Accident Shuts Down Route 1 in Milford

Route 1 has now been reopened.

Milford Fire just reported over the scanner to dispatch that the bus has been towed away, and all MFD units will now be clearing the scene of the accident — with the exception of command, who will remain for the arrival of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Milford Firefighters are now on the scene of a minor motor vehicle accident involving a shuttle-style school school bus on Route 1, near West Clark Street, that's leaking gasoline. 

Although there were several occupants on the bus, some of whom are in wheelchairs, Milford Fire command at the scene reports via the radio scanner that there is "only one minor injury" — and all occupants have been safely removed from the bus and are now stationed at Napoli Motors.

The bus is "actively leaking gasoline," and firefighters are now working to mitigate that situation. Command just reported, however, that "less than five gallons so far" has leaked out of the tank, and nothing has reached the storm drains yet.

Some 5-7 bus occupants will now be taken to Milford Hospital as a precautionary measure, at the request of the bus company's management, according to command's report over the scanner.
