Police Use Device to Subdue Milford Man

Arrest information provided by the Milford Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Milford Police said they had to use an electronic control device to subdue a 59-year-old man who allegedly became combative with officers in an incident Monday night.

Paul Wheeler of Park Circle attempted to strike an officer after police arrived at his residence on a complaint regarding a disturbance, police said.

Police said Wheeler continued to fight with officers and resisted being taken into custody as he yelled at emergency responders, threatening to harm them and their families.

A press release prepared by Officer Jeffrey Nielsen did not give details about the disturbance initially called in to police. Electronic control devices are commonly called tasers or stun guns, though those words were not used in the report.

Wheeler was charged with criminal attempt of assault on a police officer (2 counts), interfering with police and second-degree threatening. He was held on $25,000 bond.

A message for Officer Nielsen was not immediately returned Tuesday afternoon.
