Some Milford residents were evacuated from their homes Sunday afternoon when officers found suspicious materials at 76 Pond St., according to a police report.
The materials, which police said appeared potentially hazardous and were similar to those used to make explosive devices, were discovered when police responded to the residence at 4:37 p.m. on Jan. 19. The homeowner, whose identity was not disclosed, reportedly told police that intruders could be heard in the house.
Police said there were no signs of intruders. The suspicious materials, and narcotics, were found during their search, police said.
Once the materials were found, nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Members of the Connecticut Emergency Services Bomb Unit and the FBI assisted with the investigation, accessing the crime scene for safety and investigative purposes. Milford Fire Department personnel also staged in the area for precautionary measures, police said.
Investigators deemed the residence safe and cleared the scene several hours after the initial call, according to the report.
Following a medical evaluation, the male occupant was taken into custody by the Milford Police Department for criminal charges related to this investigation.
This is an active police investigation at this time and further information will be provided as it becomes available, police said.
