Police: Shoplifter on Hallucinogenic Drug Bites Cop

Milford Police say the Hartford man also spat on the officer before being arrested.

A 32-year-old Hartford man was hit with multiple charges after allegedly physically assaulting a Milford police officer.

Police said the man, Rashaad Fredericks, bit and spat on an officer who was attempting to arrest him for shoplifting at Sears, 1201 Boston Post Road in Milford, at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 9.

Fredericks and a female accomplice, who police say got away prior to their arrival, reportedly left the store with merchandise they did not pay for — a $45 electronic device. Store employees attempted to stop them both, but the woman got away when Fredericks became uncooperative, according to the police report.

Fredericks allegedly bit an officer on the hand during the arrest. He was charged with third-degree robbery, assault on emergency personnel (2 counts), third-degree assault, and sixth-degree larceny.

Police said he was transported to the hospital after admitting that he was on a hallucinogenic drug, according to the report.

Fredericks' bond was set at $2,500 and he is due in court on Sept. 3.
