Police: Milford Man's Guns Seized After Shooting Squirrel In His Yard
Officers found an unregistered assault rifle and three large capacity magazines — all of which were seized by police — in the suspect's Milford home.
A Milford man is facing several charges after he was arrested for shooting a squirrel in the yard of his Housatonic Drive home, police said.
James Toigo, 65, of Housatonic Drive in Milford, was charged April 14 with:
- unlawful discharge of a firearm
- cruelty to an animal
- first-degree reckless endangerment
- failure to register an assault rifle
- three counts of possession of a large capacity magazine

According to Milford Police, officers directing traffic in the area of Housatonic Drive heard a firearm being discharged at a local residence.
An investigation led to the arrest of Toigo, which is accused of shooting a squirrel in his yard, police said.

Unregistered Rifle Seized
In addition, officers found an unregistered assault rifle and three large capacity magazines belonging to Toigo in his home.
The guns and magazines were seized as part of the investigation, police said.
Toigo was released on a promise to appear in court May 13.
