The investigation continues into an alleged botched robbery that turned fatal early Wednesday morning.

Patriot Fuels gas station in Milford remains roped off this afternoon as investigators continue to survey a crime scene there.

Connecticut State Police say a trooper on routine patrol entered the business at 719 Boston Post Road about 3 a.m. Wednesday and encountered an armed robbery in progress.

The armed suspect did not comply with the directives of the trooper, which led to the officer fatally shooting the alleged robber, who was pronounced dead on scene, police said. A store clerk inside the building was not injured and the trooper suffered only minor injuries, police said.

Charles Poiselle, who works at a restaurant further down Boston Post Road in Orange, looked on Wednesday as state and local officials carried on the investigation.

Poiselle, who is from Trumbull, said he last entered the convenience store at Patriot Fuels in September.

"This area over here, you know, it's Milford," he said. "I never would have thought."
