The Milford Police Department is currently investigating theft from and damage to more than 20 vehicles during the overnight hours on Carlson Drive, Breakneck Lane, Mayflower Place and West Mayflower Place on early Monday.

A preliminary investigation revealed suspected arson involving four vehicles and theft from nine vehicles, which included items including GPS units, money and other personal items, a press release states. A majority of the vehicles were left unlocked prior to the incidents, police said.

At a press conference Monday afternoon police said that 15 cars have been broken into and six were targeted for arson, the New Haven Register reports

The Milford Police Department will be communicating with residents in the area regarding the incidents through mass notification messaging with the Milford Alerts system. Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles when unattended, secure belongings and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods immediately to the police department.

Police are continuing with the investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Cortes at (203) 783-4731, email jcortes@ci.milford.ct.us or visit our website at www.milfordpd.org and click on “Crime Tips” to report the information.

How many times over the last several years has there been similarly reported criminal activity involving vehicle theft/vandalism? How many arrests have been made in those incidents? Seems to me Milford has an ongoing issue with crimes involving vehicles. What is being done to rectify this? A week doesn't go by where I don't read a story about a major drug bust, often involving marijuana, occupying presumably large amounts of law enforcement manpower. Maybe it's time to rethink the MPD's resource allocation. How about devoting more badges to these types of crimes instead of vice enforcement.

I'm pretty confident that the Milford Police will catch these rascals, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out that the vandals live right amongst the people whose cars they vandalized.

I'd be shocked if the MPD even cared enough to put out extra patrols; seems all they care about is revenue stream increasing policing.
