24-Year-Old Man Dies in Milford Canoe Accident

Jeffrey Young reportedly drowned when his canoe overturned Saturday afternoon in the Long Island Sound.

A 24-year-old man died Saturday when his canoe overturned in Long Island Sound off the coast of Milford.

Jeffrey Young, a native of North Caldwell, NJ, who was living in Milford, was found without a pulse at about 2 p.m. Saturday near Silver Sands State Park and Charles Island, according to the Connecticut Post.

The U.S. Coast Guard performed CPR on Young, who was transported to Milford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the article said. An unidentified woman was also taken to the hospital. She was treated for hypothermia and released, according to the article.

Young was a West Essex High School grad who was living in Milford, according to his Facebook page.

A small-craft advisory had been issued for the area where the canoe overturned on Saturday with wind gusts up to 25 knots and waves about 2 feet.
