Is the resistance to seat belt buckling carelessness or ignorance? Or is it political -- like not wanting to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle?

I don't get how not wanting to wear a helmet (which is legal in CT) is political. Please explain so I can understand. Thank you.

I think it's about government intrusion into matters better left to individuals, which makes it political. I understand that wearing seatbelts saves lives, just as wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle does. That's why public health policies are written and sometimes enforced. But personally I'd much prefer our police to spend their time and efforts going after thieves, drug dealers, gun wielders and drunk drivers. Not wearing a seatbelt is a "victimless" crime. The only person who is hurt is the one who through carelessness, ignorance, forgetfulness, or a sense of personal independence, decides not to "click it." I'm not sure this should get anyone pulled over and fined.

Good job you dick cops, wasn't there a drag race to go to, or a construction site to hang out at?

How about a pizza party for whoever writes the most tickets?
