[Updated] Milford Woman Retracts Sexual Assault Claim

Police say the assault reported on Nov. 11 never happened.

The Milford woman who reported that she was sexually assaulted while jogging on Morningside Drive Nov. 11 has come forward to say the incident never took place, according to police.

After a thorough investigation in which police reportedly identified inconsistencies in her story, the woman told Milford detectives that the incident reported to police did not occur.

Detectives have closed this investigation and, based on the circumstances, the department and Milford Superior Court will not be pursuing charges.

The Milford Police Department is reaching out to community to inform citizens that this crime did not occur in an effort to calm the fears of those affected by the reporting of it. Police encourage anyone who is a potential victim of a crime to report that information to the police.

"Our goal is to reduce the number of victims who are discouraged with reporting crimes to the police which is essential in safeguarding not only that victim, but are community as a whole," said Milford Police Spokesman Jeff Nielsen.

Update as of 11:45 a.m. Nov. 15:

Milford police are stepping up patrols of the Morningside neighborhood as the search continues for a man who allegedly attempted to sexually assault a female jogger on Nov. 11.

The New Haven Register reported today that while the investigation continues, more patrols have been assigned to Morningside.

Police said they have been in contact with the Morningside Association about the incident. The association sent two emails to residents of the area, according to a comment on this article.

A request for comment from the Morningside Association has gone unreturned.

The original story follows:

A Milford woman avoided a man's attempted sexual assault last night, but not before suffering minor injuries that required transport to the hospital, according to police.

The alleged assault took place on Morningside Drive near Rock Road at about 6 p.m. last night, Nov. 11. Police said a preliminary investigation has revealed that a female jogger was approached by a male on Morningside Drive and was forced down a set of stairs toward the beach area.

The victim was able to get away from the male during the assault, police said, but she suffered minor injuries during the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Description of the Suspect

Police said the suspect is described as a white male, approximately 30 years of age, with a muscular build. He was reportedly wearing a black long-sleeve sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black knit cap. The victim indicated that the male had a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him and that he was in possession of a bottle.

Police have been in contact with the Morningside Association and also utilized the Milford Alerts Notification System with an awareness message regarding this incident for area residents.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding this male and/or incident to contact the Milford Police Department at 203-783-4759.

I don't mind more pizza if its good pizza. There are plenty of horrible and so-so pizza places inRead More Milford. Currently 314 B-port Ave is a boarded up building with a parking lot where cops love to sit. Either this will prevent cops from sitting their or will cause them to sit there more. Also ladies, Milford is known for its P's: pizza, porn, package, and pawn.
