Milford Police Officer to Race 70.3 Miles for Charity

On June 2, 2013 Officer Michael Compare of the Milford Police Department will be participating in the Rev3 Half-Ironman Triathlon at Lake Quassy in Middlebury, CT.

This race is 70.3 miles long, consisting of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run.Officer Compare will be participating in this race in honor of Chase Kowalski, one of the twenty children tragically taken from us on December 14, 2012 during the Sandy Hook Elementary School incident in Newtown, Connecticut.

Officer Compare has been a police officer for nearly 13 years, recently becoming a member of the Milford Police Department. Along with other officers, Officer Compare assisted our brother and sister officers in Newtown after the tragedy by covering their patrols, assisting in escorts and security details around their town.

This was such a humbling experience that made Officer Compare want to become more involved. As avid runner and triathlete, Officer Compare has competed in several marathons, half-marathons, triathlons, and completed his first Ironman Triathlon in Louisville, KY, in August 2012.

After learning that Chase was anactive member of the running and triathlon community, Officer Compare decided that he will Race4Chase!Officer Compare will be participating in honor of Chase and will be attempting to raise funds to benefit the Chase Kowalski Memorial Fund.

The goal of the Chase Kowalski Memorial Fund, set up by Chase's parents, is to turn tragedy into triumph by healing and strengthening families and communities: To honor the legacy of Chase and all the students and educators of Sandy Hook Elementary, to positively change the lives of children and their families and to be a positive force to inspire community healing through family and children-focused programs.
