Milford Police Nab Suspected Car Thieves

New Haven residents tied to vehicle thefts on the Boston Post Road.

In October of 2013, the Milford Police Department investigated complaints involving vehicles being stolen from the Boston Post Road area of the eastern section of Milford.

Investigators from Milford, New Haven and Meriden police departments, along with members of the Connecticut State Police and FBI Safe Streets Task Force in New Haven, worked collaboratively in identifying two suspects involved in these thefts and similar thefts involving other jurisdictions.

Two of these suspects were identified as Edward Figueroa, 37, and Katia Silva, 22, both of 68 Sylvan Ave., New Haven, Conn.

Two arrest warrants were issued for the above individuals regarding one of the reported thefts from Milford.

On Oct. 23, Edward Figueroa was taken into custody in New Haven after being found in possession of a stolen vehicle. Katia Silva was located a short distance from the scene where she was taken into custody regarding her outstanding arrest warrant from one of the Milford vehicle thefts.

The two arrest warrants for the Milford incident were served on both individuals.

Figueroa was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and second-degree criminal trover. He was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned in Milford Superior Court Oct. 24.

Katia Silva was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit second-degree criminal trover. She was released on a promise to appear in court Nov. 19.

Subsequent the arrests, investigators executed a search warrant at the home of Figueroa and Silva that resulted in the findings of additional vehicle accessories.

Additional information and suspects have been developed as a result of these investigations, search warrant findings and arrests.
