It was a violent and deadly day in Milford as two men died in an apparent murder-suicide, but not before the gunman opened fire on city police officers, police said in a press release.

Police said they responded to 16 Midway Avenue around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday after receiving numerous phone calls that a gun had been fired.

When police arrived they found Michael Savignano, 56 of an uncertain address, with chest injuries sustained from a gun shot wound, police said.

While officers were attending to Savignano they saw Vincent Edwards, 48 of 16 Midway Avenue, walking on the street with a handgun.

Edwards then went into his house and climbed a ladder to the roof, police said.

“While on the roof, Edwards pointed the firearm in the direction of the officers,” police spokesman Officer Jeffrey Nielsen said in a press release. “As the officers began to retreat to an area of safety, Edwards discharged the firearm. Moments later, Edwards discharged the weapon a second time. Police located Edwards on the roof with a self-inflicted gunshot wound where he was pronounced deceased.”

Milford police did not fire on Edwards, police said.

Savignano was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead, police said. Police found a firearm at the scene. Investigators believe the two males were acquainted with each other, police said.

Police are on scene and continuing with the investigation. Jonathan Law High School was briefly placed on lockdown because it is in close proximity to the shooting.

Wow, you just can't STFU, can you? Nor do you have the simple reading comprehension of a 7 year old. Truly astounding how clueless you really are. Logic never entered your genes i guess. Go back to watching Matlock reruns and stay off the net; all you do is make yourself look foolish every time you post. God you're pathetic.

My great grandchild told me what STFU means. No and you can't make me. Now you add I have a 7 year old reading comprehension, I'm clueless, I have no logic and pathetic. I'm thinking you like me...

I always liked you Gary; I've even thanked you here on these forums for your interest in education. But when you start calling me racist, it's an attack I'm not going to take lying down, especially when it's you who have attached color, creed, etc to my "dirtbags and louses" descriptor just because they come from Bpt and Stratford. That makes you the racist, not me, something you've avoided acknowledging over and over instead just coming back with your "WAHHHHH, YOU'RE CALLING ME NAMES! I'M THE VICTIM!!! WAHHHHHH!" Just STFU already; Matlock is starting.

You certainly are entertaining. If your summary of our comments back and forth is that I am racist SHOUT it from the mountain top, and yell it out loud and clear. Feel better about yourself………… Matlock is a re-run so I’m going to watch Little House On The Prairie.

You're boring, like most people who have no clue. I don't care what you are. I could care less if you dropped dead tomorrow. I don't know you. Don't care to either. You're less than nothing. You're a fart in the wind to me. Now go away, mmmkay?
