Milford Police: 'Suspicious Note' Leads to Harborside School Evacuation
Although the scare proved false, Harborside Middle School was evacuated this morning after a threatening note suggesting a possible bombing was found in the school's bathroom, Milford Police said.
According to Lt. Vaughan Dumas, the department received a complaint from school administrators that "a suspicious note implying a bomb scare" was discovered in a restroom at the downtown middle school shortly before 8 a.m.
'Swept for Safety'
"The on-site school resource officer coordinated with school administrators to facilitate a precautionary evacuation to nearby Parsons Government complex so the school could be swept for safety," Dumas stated in a press release.
Additional police personnel were dispatched to protect the area, Dumas said.

State Bomb Squad Assists
And the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad were requested to assist in conducting the search of the school.

State police officers responded with three canines trained in bomb detection. the animals were then conducted a thorough search throughout the school.
"Shortly before 9:0 the school was cleared and deemed safe, allowing the students and staff to return to the building. There was no suspicious packages found during the search.
Shelter In Place
Dumas noted that, as a precaution, area municipal buildings and nearby Laurelton Hall were notified.
"They sheltered in place all the occupants of their respective buildings as the safety sweep of the building was being conducted," he stated.
Investigation Continues
Milford Police Detective Division is continuing the investigation to determine the origin of the note.
A similar incident, which also involved an evacuation, occurred at the downtown middle school in May 2012.
