Milford Shooting Victim was Related to Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti

Lauretti said he was shocked and saddened by his cousin's death

Michael Savignano, 56, was gunned down on Midway Avenue Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday his cousin long-time Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti said he was both “shocked and saddened” to learn of his relative’s death, according to the Milford Mirror.

Savignano lived in Shelton with his mother, and had some past problems Lauretti told the Milford Mirror. Lauretti said he saw his cousin about a week ago.

Police have said they responded to 16 Midway Avenue around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday after receiving numerous phone calls that a gun had been fired.

When police arrived they found Savignano with chest injuries sustained from a gun shot wound, police said.

While officers were attending to Savignano they saw Vincent Edwards, 48 of 16 Midway Avenue, walking on the street with a handgun.

Edwards then went into his house and climbed a ladder to the roof, police said. Edwards then fired on police officers and then took his own life, police said.

Milford police have not said that Edwards killed Savignano, and will only say they are continuing to investigate. It’s been reported widely that it was a murder suicide.

Lauretti told the Mirror that he heard the dispute was over a woman.
