Milford Man Charged With DUI After Driving His Car On The Sidewalk After Fireworks

The arrest occurred in Fairfield and the Milford man told police he had just one beer.

Mark Wittkofske, 23, of Milford faces driving under the influence and drug charges after being arrested by Fairfield police after allegedly driving on a Post Road sidewalk early Sunday morning.

Wittkofske, who told police he was returning home to Milford after attending Stratford's fireworks show, was allegedly seen driving at a high rate of speed on the Post Road, near South Pine Creek Road,according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Fairfield Citizen reports that at one point, two of Wittkofske's tires were on the sidewalk before he veered off and then swerved back onto the road's shoulder and hitting a curb.

Wittkofske allegedly told the officer, "Sorry, you scared me,"according to the Fairfield Citizen and told police he had only drank one beer that night.

Police say Wittkofske failed field-sobriety tests and was also found in possession of marijuana and smoking pipes, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

Wittkofske was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive right, possession of a controlled substance, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 14.
