To James: We've all done stupid stuff. I, myself, was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief when I was around your age, and my life wasn't ruined by the incident. Expect to pay restitution, but I'd strongly recommend you go beyond whatever "punishment" is doled out by the Judge. Perhaps do some volunteer work for the shopkeeper in question. My experience taught me things beyond monetary values; now everywhere I go, and in everything I do, I try to leave something in better condition than when I found it. Pick up that piece of trash that everyone walks by and pretends to ignore; At the very least, make eye contact and smile at a homeless man; Hold the door for someone; Adjust that display of olives in the supermarket before they all come crashing down... Your little "misjudgment" is not the end of the world - try to make it a learning experience that will make you a better person. Mine made me understand that I am part of society. I know the incident is embarrassing now, but it will make you stronger in the long run. Best of luck.
